Sushil Koirala announces candidacy NC president

Kathmandu, 4 Sept.: NC Acting President Sushil Koirala announced his candidacy for party president to succeed his cousin Girija Prasad Koirala at a news conference Saturday.
He’s being challenged by three-tome Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and Bhim Bahadur Tamang.
Vice-president Ram Chandra Pokhrel, candidate for Sunday’s sixth round voting for prime minister, isn’t contesting saying he’ll stay neutral in the vote.
Koirala said he’ll hand over party leadership to the ‘next generation’ after completing one term.
He added he’ll promote ideals of BP Koirala and Girija Prasad Koirala—ideals that are contradictory.
Elections to elect a new party leadership is being at the 12th general convention in the capital 17 o 21 September.

Communications Minister speaks out against Rakesh Sood

Kathmandu, 4 Sept. Communications Minister and Government Spokesman
Shanker Pokhrel, the first minister to come out publicly against Rakesh Sood, said in Jiri Saturday the Indian ambassador crossed diplomatic norms by making critical comments against the Nepali media.
Sood alleged critical comments against sub-standard juice produce of an ndian joint venture company appeared in the media which was denied advertisements of the company.
Pokhrel blamed the foreign ministry for not coming out with the government view on the controversy created by the comment.
Indian private joint companies, at the behest of the Indian embassy, don’t give advertisements to media critical of India at the behest of the, media managers say.
The embassy has come into fresh controversy for meddling in Nepalai affairs.
A Maoist legislator said he received threatening calls from a top embassy official for voting for his chairman Prachanda in elections for prime minister.
Earlier, The Kathmandu Post said the release of imported newsprint was delayed at Kolkata port because of embassy intervention.

Three more cholera cases detected in Butwal

Kathmandu, 4 Sept.: Three more cases of cholera, a virulent form of diarrhea, was detected in Butwal Saturday forcing health authoriti4es at Lumbini Zonal Hospital to issue a general health alert.
Nine cases have detected so far in one week in the west Nepal town,
