SUSHIL KOIRALA ELECRED NC PRESIDENT (BREAKING NEWS)

Kathmandu, 21 Sept. Sushil Koirala was elected the NC president for a four-year term Wednesday by collecting a majority 1,652 votes in Tuesday’s election for president.
The acting president was elected by 3,100 delegates of the 12th general convention.
Koirala defeated his nearest rival and three-time former prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba who got 1,317 votes.
The third presidential candidate Bhim Bahadur Tamang got only 78 votes—votes not enough to force a runoff election.
There would have been a runoff election Wednesday if none of the three candidates could collect a majority vote.
Koirala, acting president of Nepal’s oldest party personally appointed by Girija Prasad Koirala, steered the party when his cousin was sick either when he was prime minister or out of government for nearly three years.
Sushil, a bachelor, is not tainted and never assumed ministerial responsibilities when the party was in power.
He isn’t a member of the constituent assembly (CA)/parliament after losing from his traditional constituency in Nepalgunj in CA elections in April 2008.
Elections were held Tuesday for 61 seats in the party central working committee, vice-president and treasurer,
Vote counting for vice-president, treasure and SWC members will be start Wednesday.
Prakash Man Singh and Prabhu Narayan Chaudhary are candidates for vice-president and treasurer from the Koirala panel; Bimalendra Nidhi and Chitralekha Yadav are Deuba’s lchoice for vice-president and treasurer.
Tamang has fielded Narihari Acharya as his general secretary.
NC 12th general convention concluded Tuesday with the election.
