TRANSPORT WORKERS SHUT DOWN MID AND

FAR-WEST

Kathmandu, 4 Oct. Transport workers Monday shut down the mid and far-west districts in five anchals demanding compensation for the family of a driver and action against persons who killed him by dumping him into Bheri river in Surkhet last month.
Workers announced an indefinite strike demanding implementation of an agreement with government.
Talks began between government and transport workers to implement government assurances, including action against persons who dumped the driver into the river.
Irate locals dumped the driver’s body after a bus ran over a child killing him.

ELECTION FOR UML STUDENT WING TUESDAY

Kathmandu, 4 Oct. Election of office bearers of a student body affiliated with UML will be held Tuesday in Janakpur.
The union announced details of the programme Monday with the publication of a voters’ list with 2009 members.
Election will be held from seven in the morning to noon.
Two contenders are attempting to grab leadership of the union for a two-year term.
The union convention started four days ago.

NEPAL DEFEATS HONG KONG

Kathmandu, 4 Oct. Nepal defeated Hong Kong by 79 runs in the ACC U-19 Women’s Cricket Championship in Singapore Monday.
Nepal set Hong Kong a target of 124 runs in 25 overs.
Nepal bowled out Hong Kong for 44runs in 16.3 overs.
Captain Mary Thapa was declared player of the match.
Nepal meets Kuwait Tuesday.

THREE PARTY MEET TUESDAY

Kathmandu, 4 Oct. A summit meet of three major parties to discuss current political issues scheduled for Monday has been postponed until Tuesday, NC said.
The party said the meet was postponed as Maoist Chairman Prachanda was not in town.
He’s attending a conference in Malaysia.
