UN OFICIAL MEETING BIDYA BHANDARI

Kathmandu, 7 Oct.: Visiting UN Under Secretary General and Chief of Political Affairs B. Lynne Pascoe is holding talks with Defence Minister Bidya Bhandari before he concludes in two-day visit Thursday.
He will hold separate talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sujata Koiralal Thursday.
Bhandari is a firm critic of UN calling it a ‘tail of Maoists’.
UN is irked by the description.
Bhandari is popular with Nepal Army for her firm support for the state army.
She’s Nepal’s fist woman defence minister.

NEPAL ENTERS SEMI-FNALS OF WOMEN’S CRICKET TOURAMENT

Kathmandu, 7 Oct. Defending champion Nepal Thursday defeated host Singapore by 70 runs to enter the semi-final of the ACC U-19 Women’s Championship.
Nepal scored 169 runs for the loss of two wickers in 25 overs.
Singapore was bowled out for 68 runs.
Nepal registered is third successive win in the championship.

Kathmandu, 7 Oct.: Gross foreign exchange reserve was Rs 267.85 billion in amid-August 2010- up 0.5 percent compared at mid-July, Nepal Rashtra Bank said.
Inflation was 9.6 percent because of low increment in index of non-food items and service groups despite 12.5 percent increase in index of food and beverages.
