DEUBA MEETING PUT OFF
Kathmandu, 9 Dec.: A conclave scheduled for Thursday of a faction of the Sher Bahadur Deuba-led group has been put off.
The meeting was convened to pressurize President Sushil Koirala to change his plans to appoint Ram Chandra Paudel and Krishna Prasad Shitaula vice-chairman and general secretary.

U.S. AMBASSADOR CONGRATULATES ANURADHA KOIRALA
Kathmandu, 9 Dec.: Ambassador Scott DeLisi welcomed CNN Hero of the Year Anuradha Koirala to the U.S. Embassy Wednesday morning, where embassy employees warmly greeted Ms. Koirala upon her arrival, US embassy said.
Ambassador DeLisi congratulated Ms. Koirala and the entire staff of Maiti Nepal for winning the award and praised their work rescuing and rehabilitating victims of trafficking.
Ambassador DeLisi noted that the award is a testament to Ms. Koirala’s remarkable achievement, but it is also a call to action to the rest of the world that human trafficking must be fought by governments, but also by vigilant communities and dedicated organizations such as Maiti Nepal.
Ambassador DeLisi and Ms. Koirala welcomed the government of Nepal’s commitment to combating human trafficking and expressed their hope that the government would move quickly and vigorously to prosecute those who have been arrested for their trafficking activities.
They also discussed the importance of addressing domestic trafficking and the abuses suffered by the girls and young women in the dance bars, cabin restaurants and guest houses that are proliferating throughout the country. The Ambassador assured Ms. Koirala of the U.S. government’s continued commitment and dedication to addressing this critical area of human rights concern.
