NC CWC MEET POSTPONED INDEFINITELY
By Bhola B Rana
Kathmandu, 2 Dec.: Indicating difficulties newly elected NC President Sushil Koirala will encounter to steer the party following the death of his predecessor and cousin Girija Prasad Koirala seven months ago, a party central working committee (CWC) meeting was postponed indefinitely Thursday .
Even after five days of continuous discussions, the committee couldn’t agree on Sushil’s nomination of Ram Chandra Paudel and Krishna Prasad Shitaula as vice-president and general secretary.
Shitaula will be the second general secretary, if confirmed by the CWC. Prakash Man Singh was elected two months ago by a party general convention.
The nominations by the new president have to be approved by the newly elected central committee.
Fifty-eight of 64 CWC members expressed their views over five days.
Even supporters of Koirala opposed the appointments.
“The meeting was postponed to respect the wishes of the committee members for discussion and understanding,” Singh, the son of Ganesh Man, said.
Girija, who ran the party dictatorially without internal discussion,
never faced such challenges either to conduct party or state affairs as prime minister,
