FINANCE SECRETARY'S WALKOUT TO BE RAISED IN PARLIAMENT

NC TO RAISE FINANCE SECRETARY WALKOUT IN PARLIAMENT

Kathmandu, 30 March: Main opposition NC will raise in parliament
Wednesday Finance Secretary Rameshwor Khanal’s walkout from his
office Tuesday following differences with new Finance Minister Bharat
Mohan Adhikari.
‘His resignation was forced,” former Finance Minister and party leader
Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat said.
“This is very objectionable. It will adversely affect the national economy
and financial administration,’ he added.
Khanal was forced to resign, NC said.
The walkout has stunned the political and business community.
Khanal walked out after mass transfers in the ministry under alleged
pressure from sections of the business community by Adhikari immediately after taking charge of the finance ministry.
Adhikari is from Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal’s UML; the secretary
who staged a rare walkout worked closely with Adhikari’s predecessor
Surendra Pandey, who was also from UML.

MAOISTS CLOSE DOWN TIKAPUR

Kathmandu, 30 March: Maoists closed down TIkapur town in the far-West
Wednesday protesting Tuesday’s first police attempt to thwart staggered
black flag demonstrations against Indian Ambassador Rakesh Sood.
Sood was chief guest at a cultural programme staged by a Tharu cultural group.
Maoists said two dozen party workers in the police assault—four seriously.
Sood was visiting Kailali and Kanchanpur inspecting Indian-aided
projects.
Buses on long and short routes didn’t leave or arrive in the town which has ben completely shut down.
Maoists began public protests against Sood from Solokhumbu at the foot of Mount Everest for alleged anti-Tibet activities during Dasain last year when
shoes were hurled at him.
Maoist leaders publicly charge Indian for intervening in Nepal’s internal
matters.

TERAI GROUPS INVITED FOR TALKS

Kathmandu, 30 March: Peace Minister Barsha Man Pun said Tuesday
armed groups in the terai and hills in the east except ‘criminal groups’ have been invited for a a dialogue to address their demands.
The disclosure came soon after one bus passenger was killed and 43 were
injured in three bomb blasts in three days in three districts as rebel groups huddle across the border in Patna, Bihar, to draw out their strategy for anti-government
protests in April.
Pun said government will negotiate with groups of a ‘political nature’.

CIAA SEEKS FOREIGN MINISTRY ASSIST TO BOOK
BRITISH-BASED COMPANY

Kathmandu, 30 March: CIAA Tuesday asked the foreign ministry
through a letter Tuesday for help to summon Assured Risk Limited—a company basied in the Great Britain—to probe supply of sub-standard armed personnel carriers (APCs) to Nepal Police peacekeepers with the UN in Darfur, Sudan.
The investigating agency is pursuing complaints of
irregularities in the sale and purchase of the APCs.
cabinet has authorized CIAA to investigation.

UML LAWMAKER DIDN’T SIT FOR SLC EXAMS TUESDAY

Kathmandu, 30 March: UML woman lawmaker Kiram Kumari Raya didn’t
sit for SLC examinations from a center at Sarlahi Tuesday.
She gave the examination personally Monday.
Her daughter impersonated for her in three earlier tests.
The party Tuesday asked its parliamentary to investigate and submit a
report to the party disciplinary committee.
