GIRIJA PRASAD AND OTHER POLITICIANS URGED MAOISTS TO INLFLATE MAOIST FITER STRENGTH FROM 7,000 TO 34,000
By Bhola B Rana
Kathmandu, 23 April: Home minister during the royal regime Kamal Thapa and currently Chairman of RPP-Nepal Kamal Thapa revealed Saturday Girija Prasad Koirala and other leaders asked Maoists to inflate Maoist fighter strength from 7,000 to 34,000.
“Just ahead of the 2062/63 popular movement, the Maoist fighter strength was only 7,000. Girija Prasad Koirala and other leaders Nepal Army can’t be dependable during the peace process for Maoists. The king’s is also can’t be relied on.
“Because of this, the strength of the fighters was overnight increased to 34,000 before entering camps,” Thapa said in an article in Annapurna Post entitled: After 11 Baiskah, The Road Itself Was Wrong.
‘To some extent, the combatant integration has been created because of this.”
Sunday is the 6th Loktantra Divas—the day King Gyanendra announced restoration of parliament that had completed its five-year tenure on the pressure of political parties.
Thapa reasoned why the nation is facing the current crisis.
“Constituent assembly election was conducted without finalizing the integration of Maoist fighters.:
Headed existing structures were demolished ‘without minimum understanding on a constitution and state structure’.
