POLICE, PROTESTORS CLASH IN ITAHARI

MORE THAN THREE DOZEN PROTESTORS, POLICEMEN INJURED

Kathmandu, 18 April: At least eight policemen and 30 members of a community forest users’ group were in injured in hour-long clashes at Itahari, Snsari Monday.
Members of users’ group were demanding restoration of rights of the group curtailed by government.
Policemen and demonstrators exchanged brickbats; police lobbed at least two teargas shells during the protests.

SPEAKER CANCELS PANAMA VISIT

Kathmandu, 18April: Reflecting the serious political situation, Sepeaker Subash Nemwang announced Monday cancellation of his Panama visit to attend an annual conference of the Inter-Parliamentary Union that was to have begun last Friday there, an announcement said Monnday.
The visit was cancelled of because of the prevailing situation at home as it’s unlikely a constitution will be promulgated by the second 28 May deadline.
Whips of major political parties were also to attend the conference..

RESULT OF UML ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEET (UPDATE)

Kathmandu, 18 April: A meeting of an advisory committee of UML attended by embattled Jhalanath Khanal advised the prime minister of several options before him to resolve the deadlock over government expansion.
Member Siddhi Lal Singh said the meeting advised the government to give his government a national character and invite NC to join government.
