GAUTAM BUDDHA INTERNATONAL PEACE AWARD RECEIVED BY MAYORS OF NAGASAKI AND HIROSHIMA
Kathmandu, 17 May; The 2555th birthday of The Buddha is being celebrated Tuesday.
Dr. Tomihisha Taue and Dr. Tada. Tushi Akiba, mayors of Nagasaki and Hiroshima respectively will receive the first Gautam Buddha International Peace Award with a prize money of $50,000 from President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav at Lumbini, the birthplace of The Buddha Tuesday at a special ceremony.
Government instituted the award.

4.5 MILLION VOTERS REGISTERED SO FAR
Kathmandu, 17 May Altogether 4.5 million voters have been registered so far in a new digitalized voters’ list , election commission said Monday.
Groups in terai and some hill districts are obstructing the national campaign.
The campaign has been completed in Kathmandu and Kaski districts.
The drive will be completed in most districts by mid-June, the commission said.

IMMIGRATION OFFICIAL RELEASED ON BAIL
Kathmandu, 17 May; Bhuminanda Bhandari, an immigration official at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) was released from custody Monday after relatives paid a Rs. 1 million bailslapped by the special court.
He was sent back to jail Sunday after he didn’t first furnish the surety money,

EIGHT DRUGS PEDDLERS , TRAFFICKERS ARRESTED
Kathmandu, 17 May: A police drugs enforce unit Monday arrested eight drug peddlers and traffickers, including three Indians, from various parts in the capital.
Altogether 1.625kg brown sugar worth Rs. 6.5 million wsrecoverd.

US TEAM COMING IN JUNE
Kathmandu, 17 May: A US study team is coming in June to assess the situation for the return of Peace Corps seven years after withdrawing from Nepal.
US Ambassador Scott DeLisi said this after a formal meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Upendra Yadav Tuesday.
Peace Corps withdrew after a security guard was killed by Maoists during the 10-year Maoist insurgency when the American Cultural Center was also bombed in Gyaneshwor.

Kathmandu, 17 May: Australia Monday gave Rs 2 billion in assistance for 2011/12 through Australian Agency for International Aid for strengthening basis education, health care and improved access to clean water,

U-13 FOOTBALL SQUAD IN IRAN

Kathmandu, 17May: A 24-member U-13 football team led by Coach Chet Narayan Shrestha flew for Iran Monday to participate in the AFC U-13 Festival of Football from 19 to 24 March.
