MAOISTS GROUPING VOLUNTEERS IN MILITARY FASHION

Kathmandu, 10 May: As part of its preparations for the post-May 28 scenario in the country, the People’s Volunteers Mobilisation Bureau of the Unified, Tika R Pradhan reports in The Himalayan Times.

CPN-Maoist has formed a division with five brigades in the military formation to ‘ensure peace and

the constitution’. The brigades were set up amid a gathering

in Simara yesterday.

Maoist leaders have long been expressing concern about ‘physical attacks on the leaders and even murders’ at different parts of Madhes and were for creating a strong force to counter such incidents. A district committee member of the party, Bindeswor Mahato, was killed in Mahottari a few days ago.

“We have already formed several regional committees of PVs at different parts of the country, except in the Special Central Region — Newa and Tamsaling,” said Devendra Poudel, a member of the PVMB. He, however, denied having the PVs in the military structure.

The ‘brigades’ were declared at a political indoctrination programme in the presence of the in-charge of PVMB and standing committee member Netra Bikram Chand, Madhes Bureau in-charge and standing committee member Giriraj Mani Pokhrel and Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Biswonath Sah, who is also the in-charge of Mithila State Committee of the party.

According to central committee member Srawan Yadav, Bishnu Lama has been declared director of the brigade in Bhojpura State Committee while Gopal Chaudhary is the chief of the brigade.

The party has named the main commander of the brigade, who directs the formation of its policy and programmes, as director while the ‘heads’ will handle the brigades as field-commanders.

Ajay Yadav is the director of the eastern region of Mithila State Committee that includes Saptari and Siraha of which Mahesh Yadav is the head. Rajan Dhungana has been given both the responsibilities of director and head of the second brigade of Mithila that includes Dhanusha, Mahottari and Sarlahi.

In the Awadh State Committee, Prajwollan has been declared director of both the brigades while Jujharu is the head of the brigade that looks after Nawalparasi and Sangam heads another brigade that includes Kapilvastu and Rupandehi. Central Committee member Srawan Yadav has been named the director of the Madhes division of the PV while Santosh Poudel will head the division as ‘chief’. The formation of the PVs will fight against absurdities in the locality and gather public opinion in favour of peace and the constitution besides organising the youth in the lower levels, said Anjana Bishankhe, secretary of Bhojpura State Committee.
