PARLIAMENT SESSION OBSTRUCTED FIFTH TIME

NO CONSTITUTION AMENDMENT BILL PRESENTED AMID NC OBSTRUCTION

Kathmandu, 26 May: Parliament again adjourned until Friday afternoon by Speaker Subash Nemwang when lawmakers from main opposition NC stood up from their seats and prevented a minister from presenting a bill to amend an interim constitution to extend the constituent assembly(CA) by one more year from Saturday.
Opposition lawmakers refused to sit down to enable the minister to present the bill proposal
A programme to present the bill was removed from the business before the session was adjourned.
The fate of the bill is now uncertain as there’s parliamentary procedural rule that says a bill must be presented 72 hours in the legislature for approval.
The house session was obstructed for the fifth consecutive day Thursday.
Only 24 plus hours will for the remain the bill amendment to be removed should it be presented in the legislature for discussion and approval Friday.

COMMITEES FORMED TO SELECT VCs

Kathmandu, 26 May Separate committees were formed by government to select vice-chancellors of four universities Thursday under Education Minister Gangalal Tuladhar.
The positions are vacant after the vice-chancellors completed their tenure.
