CIAA CHARGES 36 PERSONS,INCLUDING THREE FORMER IGPs IN SUDAN SCAM

Kathmandu, 7 June: CIAA Tuesday registered cases against three former IGPs of Nepal Police—Hem Bahadur Gurung, Om Bikram Rana and Ramesh Chand Thakiri for alleged involvement in a Rs. 280 million scam to procure armed personnel carriers (APCs) and logistics for police peacekeepers in Darfur Sudan
Charges were filed against 36 persons, mainly police officers
Charges were filed against two incumbent including AIG Arjun Jung Shahi Contractors Sambhu Bharat and Michael Rider supplier of London-based company were also charged
Lives of peacekeepers with UN were endangered with supply of sub-standard equipment.
The supplier said equipment was not properly maintained.
CIAA was pressurized not to file cases against former Home Ministers Krishna Prasad Shiitaula of NC, Bamdeb Gautam and Bhim Rawal of UML delaying registration of charges.

66 MAOISTS ATTACHED TO MAOIST LEADERS SENT BACK TO CAMP UPDATE

Kathmandu, 7 June: Second batch of 66 armed former Maoist PLA combatants attached with top Maoist leaders for their security returned
to the 3rd division at Shaktikhor, Chitwan, Tuesday.
First batch of 44 security personnel deployed for security of Chairman Prachanda returned without weapons Sunday.
UNMIN that withdrew 15January verified 106 fighters with 96 weapons.
Prachanda said Tuesday he had complete faith in government security and not to take Maoist decision to withdraw party security for top leaders as a weakness.

8TH. CENTRAL COMMITTEE OF MJFL CONCLUDES

Kathmandu, 7 June: The 8th central committee meet of MJFL which concluded Tuesday objected to a delay in the implementation of a controversial tripartite five-point agreement between the Big Three signed last Sunday.
The party reviewed the political situation after 28 May when the constituent assembly tenure laws extended three more months.
The party chaired by Bijaya Kumar Gachedhar decided to launch pressure campaign for the implementation of the five-point agreement.
