MAOIST STANDING COMMITTEE MEET CANCELLED

Kathmandu, 15 June” A Maoist standing committee scheduled for Wednesday has been pit off without fixing another date for the meeting.
Vice-chairman Narayan Kazi Shrestha said the meeting was cancelled at the last moment because of inadequate homework.
Chairman Prachanda was scheduled to present a political report.
The central committee was scheduled to meet 22 June.
The meeting was cancelled amid deep differences in the ruling party which is also the largest.
Hard-line faction led by another Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya opposes the establishment faction decision of Prachanda for integration and resettlement of former rebel fighters and relieve former PLA fighters of security duties of top leaders by disarming and sending them back to Shaktikhor camp.
The decision to disarm fighters was openly challenged as Prachanda sent back personnel assigned to him while other leaders, including Baidya, retained party security.
Wednesday’s meeting was finalizing party strategy and policy.

NATIONAL CENSUS FROM FRIDAY

Kathmandu, 15 June: A 10-day national census will be conducted from Friday.
Details of persons and families living on rent will also be collected.
A census is conduced every 10 years.

NO SPECIAL COMMITTEE MEET SATURDAY

Kathmandu, 15 June: A scheduled meeting of the special committee for integration, resettlement and supervision of 19,000 plus former Maoist fighters wasn’t held as scheduled Tuesday.
Maoist members of the committee headed by the prime ministers weren’t present.

INDONESIA PROPOSES AIR, TRADE AGREEMENTS

Kathmandu, 15 June: Indonesian Ambassador Zet Mirzal Zainuddin Tuesday proposed an air and trade agreement between Indonesia and Nepal at a meeting with Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal Tuesday.
He also proposed a sister-city relationship between Kathmandu and Bali, according to Milan Tuladhar, foreign affairs advisor of the government chief.

NEW CHINESE AMBASSADOR ASSUMES OFFICE MONDAY 20 JUNE

Kathmandu, 15 June: New Chinese Ambassador Yang Houlan, a security expert, formally assumes office Monday 20 June after presenting his credentials to President Dr.Ram Baran Yadav.
He arrives Saturday to take up responsibilities.
Non-residential ambassadors from South Africa, Afghanistan, Laos and Spain also present their credentials to the president Monday.
