MAOIST SPECIAL COMMITTEE DIDN’T MEET UPDATE

Kathmandu, 23 June: A scheduled meeting of Maoist standing committee didn’t meet Thursday.
Maoist leader and party office bearer close to Chairman Prachanda said late Thursday the party chief is holding last-minute discussions with colleagues for a scheduled central committee meet Friday.
It’s uncertain whether the central committee will meet Friday.
Secretary CP Gajurel, close Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya challenging Prachanda, said the standing has to meet to set an agenda for the central committee meeting.

NO SPECIAL COMMITTEE FOR NINE DAYS

Kathmandu, 23 June: A scheduled special committee for integration, resettlement and supervision of 19,000 plus Maoists chaired by the prime minister couldn’t be convened Thursday as well.
Maoist representatives at the committee said they were busy preparing for their central committee meeting which is scheduled to start Friday.
Government Chief Jhalanath Khanal and UML and NC representatives met informally.
Maoists haven’t been attending the committee meetings regularly for the last nine days amid delay in concluding the peace process, constitution drafting and forming a national government.
There’s virtually been no progress in pushing forward the three process after the constituent assembly tenure was extended by another three months after 28 May facilitated by a tripartite agreement between Maoists, UML and main opposition NC.
The process of integration and resettling former Maoist fighters as part of the peace process is behind schedule.

18 MAOIST AFFILIATED ORGANIZATIONS ASK PM KHANAL TO WITHDRAW GOVT, DECISION TO DEPLOY TROOPS

Kathmandu, 23 June: Eighteen Maoist-affiliated organizations asked government to withdraw government decision to deploy Nepal Army for security of hydro power plants.
A memorandum was submitted to Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal Thursday.
The government decision was taken after a Maoist attack on office premises of Upper Karnali Hydro Power project being developed by an Indian company in the far-West.

ARMY DEFUSES TWO BOMBS AT JHAPA DISTRICT ADMINISTRATION OFFICE

Kathmandu, 23 June: Two bombs planted at the premises of Jhapa district administration in Chandragadhi were defused Thursday by a bomb disposal unit of Nepal Army
One bomb was planted near the CDO's office
Yalambar Kirat's Kirat Janabadi Workers' Party has claimed responsibility for planting the bombs.

JAYANT PRASAD OFFICIALLYCONFIRMED AS INDIA’S NEW ABASSADOR TO NEPAL

Kathmandu, 23 June: Special Secretary at the foreign ministry Jayant Prasad has been officially confirmed as India’s snew ambassador to succeed Rakesh Sood.
Sood is the first Indian envoy to Nepal with intelligence foreign intelligence RAW background.
Like new Chinese Ambassador Yang Houlan who assumed responsibilities Monday, Prasad is a former ambassador to Afghanistan.
The new Indian envoy’s father, Bimal Prasad, was also ambassador to Nepal.
