MAOISTS URGE PM KHANAL NOT TO RESIGN
Kathmandu, 5 June: Ruling communist parties UCPN(Maoist) and UML reviewed peace process, constitution drafting and government formation at a meeting Saturday.
Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal, who is also party chairman, and Chairman Prachanda were assisted by top aides, including vice-chairmen Mohan Baidya, Dr. Baburam Bhattarai and Ram Bahadur Thapa.
Former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and KP Sharma Oli, critics of the government chief, weren’t in the Khanal team Maoists asked Khanal not to resign until an environment is created for national understanding, Prakash Jwala, political advisor of the prime minister said.
Maoists argued such resignation will obstruct the peace process and constitution drafting while discussing implementation of a five-point agreement between the two ruling parties and main opposition NC.
UML briefed Maoists of decisions taken by the party’s just concluded central committee meet.
NC has been demanding immediate resignation of Khanal following a five-point between the Big Three.

MAOIST STANDING MEETING POSTPONED INDEFINITELY
Kathmandu, 5 June: A Maoist standing committee has been postponed indefinitely because of the busy schedule of party leaders, a party announcement said.
Saturday’s scheduled meeting didn’t take place.
Friday’s meeting was abruptly adjourned until Saturday following deep differences
NC DISTRICT PRESIDENT MEET CONVENED
Kathmandu, 5 June: A two-day meeting of main opposition NC district working committee (DWC) has been convened in the capital from 11 June to formulate common policy on key national issues, party Office Chief Basanta Kumar Gautam said.
The party will review the party’s organizational base and the also assess the political scenario after 28 May.

After the party held rallies in districts and five development regions
beginning from Pokhara and ending in the capital to highlight peace and constitution drafting.
The leadership has come under fire for extending the constituent assembly tenure by three months after 28 May without securing support of Maoists and UML for its 10-point conditions—immediate resignation of government and surrender of Maoist weapons.

DINESH CHANDRA DEBKOTA APPOINTED NPC VICE-CHAIRMAN
Kathmandu, 5 June: Dinesh Chandra Debkota has been appointed National Planning Commission (NPC) vice-chairman.
Debkota was appointed Saturday by the cabinet ahead of the annual budget presentation.
He was acting vice-chairman following the resignation of Jagdish Chandra Pokhrel with the formation of the new government.

NEER SHAH BAGS CHHINNALATA AWARD
Kathmandu, 5 June: Neer Shah has been awarded the Chhinnalata Music Award 2010 for composition by Chhinnalata Music Award Guthi.
Sachin Singh was awarded for music and Sukmit Gurung for singing.
