PEOPLE’S FINANCE SUSPENDS OPERATIONS

Kathmandu, 7 June: People’s Finance suspended operations Monday.
following liquidity crunch.
Nepal Rashtra Bank (NRB) withdrew Rs 70 million after the deposit matured mid-May.
NRB immediately started investigations.
The central bank says 60 percent of its loans were locked in the realty sector.

DELAY IN FILING SUDAN CASES

Kathmandu, 7 June: After indecisiveness on whether or not to take action against political leadership in the Sudan scam, charges couldn’t be registered Monday at the special court as well, Kantipur reports.
CIAA sources there was confusion between CIAA Secretary Bhagwati Kafle and joint legal attorney following intense political pressure.
‘A decision has already been taken to charge the police leadership. Charges have to be filed against the home minister then,” a CIAA source said. “Intense pressure is coming from the political leadership not to charge the then home minister. Cases filed will be flimsy without charges against then home ministers.”
