GOVT.SPONSORED POWER COMPANY REGISTERED

Kathmandu, 13 July: A government-sponsored company to encourage investment in the power sector to meet chronic electricity shortage was registered Tuesday.
“Jalbidyut Lagani Tatha Vikash Company” or Power Investment and Investment Company was registered Monday at Company Registration Office with the names of chairman and other members of the board.
Power Secretary Balananda Paudel is its first chairman.
People are inconvenienced by chronic load-shedding down to two hours every day because of monsoon rain; power cuts have adversely affected industrial production.
Load-shedding peaks to 18 hours a day during four months in winter from mid-December also increasing crime especially in urban areas.

BHANU JAYANTI BEING OBSERVED WEDNESDAY

Kathmandu, 13 July: The 198th birthday of Bhanubhakta Acharya is being observed Wednesday as Bhanu jayanti.
Bhanubhakta translated Ramayan into Nepali from Sanskrit and with the spread of the language also helped to unify and consolidate the nation.
Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal garlanded his statute at Durbar High School Wednesday.

FINLAND UPGRADING ITS NEPAL EMBASSY

Kathmandu, 13 July: Finland is upgrading its embassy in Nepal from charge de’ affaires to ambassador level, according to Milan Tuladhar, advisor of Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal quoted by Kantipur.
An ambassador assumes office September.
