CONTROVERSIAL TOP UN OFFICIAL IN TOWN AND DISCUSSES DELAYED PEACE PROCESS WITH CARETAKER PM KHANAL

SAMUEL TAMRAT HOLD DISCUSSIONS WITH CARETAKER PM KHANAL UPDATE

Kathmandu, 20 Aug.: Samuel Tamrat held discussions with Caretaker Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal Saturday after flying n as Special Emissary of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
The delayed peace process and constitution to institutionalize a declared republic won’t be met by the 31 August deadline.
The objectives haven’t been completed in three years and three months.
Tamrat flew in and held discussions with the caretaker premier before the deadline lapses.
Tamrat was Deputy of Ian Martin the left-leaning Special Representative of the UN chief when UNMIN, the political arm of UN first entered Nepal.
Tamrat’s role in Nepal itself is controversial.
Sources closely following the Maoist insurgency reveal he lobbied for entry of UNMIN in Nepal in direct talks with Maoists living in the urban jungle of India during the 10-year insurgency when Maoists were declared terrorists by Nepal, India and USA—a permanent security council member of UN.
Former UN Chief Kofi Annan lobbied for the entry of UN into Nepal then.
The UNMIN role was disastrous with major parties who first invited UN in Nepal charging UN for pro-Maoist biases and actions.
Even retired UN top official Kul Chandra Gautam has criticized UNMIN for a pro-Maoist bias.
