MAOIST, NC TEACHERS PADLOCK SEVEN UNIVERSITIES

SEVEN UNIVERSITIES PADLOCKED

Kathmandu, 9 Aug.: NC and Maoist teachers Tuesday padlocked offices of seven universities indefinitely following appointment of their vice-chancellors by government Monday night by government.
The appointments were unilateral as government ignored pressures from major parties to appoint their candidates
The teachers said the appointments by an outgoing government was unprincipled.

NC CENTRAL COMMITTEE BEGINS LATE

Kathmandu, 9 Aug. NC central committee will begin Thursday detailed discussion on a task force suggestion to establish seven provinces, General Secretary Prakash Man Singh said,
The report was presented to a committee meet that began late Tuesday.
A faction supporting Sher Bahadur Deuba to lead the parliamentary party replacing Ram Chandra Paudel pressed for implementation of a secret agreement between President Sushil Koirala and Deuba.
The faction demanded appointment of Gyanendra Bahadur Karki as joint general secretary.

DEFENCE ARMY TO SURRENDER WEAPONS

Kathmandu, 9 Aug.: Defence Army Chairman RP Mainali is being conditionally released by government if weapons are surrendered, Naya Patrika reports.
After two rounds of unofficial talks there was agreement to withdraw charges against Mailani after 30weoins are surrendered.
Mainali is currently under detention at Dilli Bazzar Khor.
‘We are awaiting implementation of he agreement,” Mainali told Naya Patrika from his cell.
