Kathmandu, 15 Aug.: Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal charged coalition partner UCPN (Maoist) ‘was not practical’
“NC has to leave its stance” national understanding was possible only under its leadership.
Khanal said parties had failed to forge understanding on ‘national understanding, peace process and constitution so far’.
Khanal said he was forced to resign as he couldn’t continue with the ’status quo’.
‘There is no alternative to national understanding,” he reminded.
Khanal hinted implicitly he could continue for a long time as caretaker and reminded lawmakers and the nation in a live address to parliament relayed by television and radio networks he was elected after 16 failed attempts to elect his predecessor Madhav Kumar Nepal’s successor.
Khanal admitted he failed to deliver peace, constitution or an environment for national understanding
He admitted he came under ‘criticism from my own party’ in a review of his work and parties in parliament.
Meanwhile, Madhav Kumar Nepal, head of a UML dialogue team to select a successor government said UML will not claim leadership of a new government.
