UML LENDS SUPPORT TO NC UPDATE ON NEPAL POLITICS

UML LENDS L SUPPORT TO NC EUDATEON NEPAL POLITICS

Kathmandu, 28 Aug.: UML, the third largest party, decided to support main opposition Vice-president Ram Chandra Paudel in Sunday’s election.
The only significance of the decision is that a faction led by Madhav Kumar Nepal succeeded in negating efforts of outgoing Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal to develop closer ties with Maoists.
Khanal said he attempted to bring Maoists in his government by signing a seven-point agreement with Prachanda when other parties were attempting to isolate UCPN (Maoist).
Khanal argued such tactics wouldn’t help complete the peace process and complete a draft of a constitution.
UML said Sunday the response of NC to its request of the main opposition’s positions on government, peace process and constitution were positive.
