ARMY OFFICER SACKED

Kathmandu, 1 Sept.: Lt. Mahesh Jung Karki was sacked by Nepal Army (NA) for violating rules and regulation of the army, an army announcement said Thursday.
The officer failed to observe army norms and discipline, a statement said.
Lt. Karki went to a casino and spent money of US national John Robert Schrumpf with whom he wasn’t well-acquainted.
They met at a Thamel hotel before proceeding to a Baudha casino earlier this year.
The news received wide publicity in the local media.

SUDAN SCAM HEARING 14 SEPT.UPDATE

Kathmandu, 1 Sept.: Special court (SC) Thursday fixed 14 September 14 for another hearing on the Sudan scam.

Thirty-four police officers and a contractor charged by CIAA in purchases of logistics for peacekeepers were present Thursday’s hearing.

SHER BAHADUR DEUBA CONSULTS INDIAN AMBASSADOR

Kathmandu, 1 Sept.: New Indian Ambassador Jayant Prasad held consultations with senior NC leader Sher Bahadur Deuba Thursday.
Prasad is continuing consultations with party leaders after assuming office Friday to familiarize himself with the political leadership.
