RENOVATION OF PASHUPATINATH TEMPLE EXPECTED WITH NEW GOVT.INSTALLATION

Kathmandu, Sept. 23: Following the appointment of new culture minister, the problems related to controversy surrounding the transparency of financial matters, fixation of salary to the priests and renovation of the Pashupatinath temple are expected to be addressed, The Rising Nepal reports.
The day-to-day operation of the temple was affected in the absence of a culture minister after the resignation of the Jhalnath Khanal government. But after the appointment of Gopal Kiranti as the Culture Minister few weeks ago, all religious activities of the temple resumed in full swing.
A report published by the Pashupatinath Management Committee, a body responsible to carry out study on problems at the temple has raised three main problems- lack of transparency in the mobilisation of funds, renovation of the temple and fixed salary system of priest.
The report suggested that immediate repair of the temple, especially the inner parts of it, is very necessary as the total temple structure is in a very dilapidated state.
Sometime back, traditional temple caretakers including Kabindra Rajbhandari, Krishna Rajbhandari, Balram Rajbhandari and Devman Rajbhandari, had drawn the attention of concerned authorities saying that the temple might collapse any time if immediate renovations are carried out.
The riverside temple, built in 516 B.S. by King Mandev, was renovated only twice.
The Culture Ministry Spokesman Jhamak Prasad Sharma said the new minister directed the Department of Archeology to submit its report the report on the condition of the Pashupatinath Temple and its plans to renovate. Sharma said that the ministry could not take any decision due to the absence of the minister. The ministry is now very attentive towards the structure of the age-old temple.
However, the concerned authorities must resolve the three key problems besetting the Pashupatinaty administration. After resolving these problems, the renovation works should undertake. For the renovation, the Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT), Guthi Sansthan, the Bhandaris, the Priest and other related bodies of the temple should give permission to the DoA to carry out the repair.
The DoA must keep the record of all the repair works in pictures and videos, the DoA sources said.
DoA has been awaiting for the response of the PADT. The DoA has already sent its letter to the PADT. It will carry out the evaluation of the damage to the temple soon after it gets permission from the PADT, DoA added.
