MAOIST STANDING COMMITTEE MEETS IN EMERGENCY SESSION WITH ROW OVER HANDOVER OF KEYS OF CONTAINERS WITH WEAPONS

Kathmandu, 2 Sept.: Maoist standing committee meets in emergency session Friday following differences on handover of keys and containers to a special committee overnight with weapons verified by UN.
Weapons used by Maoists during the 10-year insurgency were handover by then rebels as part of a peace process.
Maoists kept keys to the containers although they were being monitored by a UN agency which quit 15 January after a failed four-year effort
Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai heads the special committee for integration, resettlement and supervision of 19,000 plus combatants
A faction led by First Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya Thursday charged Prachanda for a unilateral party decision without serious discussion
The handover was a move to disarm and disband PLA, Baidya charged opposing its delivery before completion of a peace process.
The Baidya faction obstructed the movement of vehicles
on streets Friday morning and in the evening will take out torchlight protests in the three cities of the Valley.
Keys at all seven cantonments weren’t handover Thursday.
US Ambassador Scott H.DeLisi even visited Prachanda at his residence and congratulated the Maoist boss for the new initiative to push the peace process.

HEALTHY NEPAL, CHINA TIES DESPITE INTERNATIONAL, DOMESTIC CHANGES

Kathmandu, 2 Sept.: Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao, in a congratulatory message to Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai said Nepal, China ties have developed healthily despite internal and domestic changes.
“No matter how international and domestic situations changed, bilateral relations have witnessed healthy development since the two countries established diplomatic relations more than half a century ago,” Wen said.

ISRAELI PM DRAWN INTO ADDITIONAL CONTROVERSY

Kathmandu, 2 Sept.: Israel’s Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein has advised Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he cannot use the government spokesman to respond to claims regarding Tara Kumari, a Nepali woman caring for Sara Netanyahu’s father, The Jerusalem Post reported on Thursday, according to agencies reporting from Jerusalem.
Tara Kumari, who was employed at the premier’s residence to help look after his ailing 96-year-old fathet-in-law Shmuel Ben Artzi, was sacked for ’repeated negligence; in his care, the media said, citing Netanyahu’s office.
According to Jerusalem Post, the Justice Ministry said in a statement last Wednesday night that the PM has informed Weinstein’s office that he intends to use personal spokesman unconnected to the government spokesman’s office, ,the newspaper said.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Israeli PMO launched an offensive against Kumari issuing two statements charging her with negligence, and saying she was prone to fits of rage.
