PM BHATTARAI ADMITS BEFORE UN DELAY IN INSTITUTIONALIZING TRANSITION FROM MONARCHY

MORE DETAILS OF PM BHATTARAI’S GENERAL ASSEMBLY ADDRESS

Kathmandu, 24 Sept.: Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai, addressing his first international conference after assuming office three weeks ago said ‘feudal monarchy’ has been abolished and admitted delay in institutionalizing the transition
He told the 66th assembly session his government will complete the peace process and constitution drafting.
Black flags greeted him Friday while addressing a meeting in New York where the UN is headquartered.
Bhattarai told the assembly ‘feudal monarchy’ has been toppled and called the present condition in Nepal a ‘momentous transition’.
“Monarchy has been abolished and federal democratic Nepal has been created,” he said.
Bhattarai called for ‘consolidation of this historical gains and institutionalize’ them,
The third ranking leader of UCPN (Maoist) heading the government mentioned multiparty democracy and called for “institutionalization of participatory democracy’ which is ‘inclusive’,
He said Nepal’s peace process is ‘home-driven’ amid widespread feeling system and government changes were driven by foreign powers.
Bhattarai admitted the completion of transition was delayed.
He asked for international goodwill and cooperation for Nepal.
The premier called for cooperation to support to Lumbini, the birthplace of The Buddha.
There was no reference in the address on major international issues as he said earlier his government will vote for a Palestinian state on the assembly opposed by USA and Israel.
Other references on Nepal’s international outlook were traditional.
