DEMAND DRAFTS ISSUED BY EVEREST BANK FROM TATOPANI TO FACILITATE TRADE WITH TIBET

Kathmandu, 15 Sept.: Everest Bank Ltd, a joint venture with Punjab National Bank, has for the first time started issuing demand drafts from its Tatopani branch of Nepal/Tibet border.
The Bank has a draft drawing arrangement with Bank of China.
‘Khasa, being the hub for China related business, businessmen will highly benefit from this service,’ a Bank statement said.
Khasa is just across the border from Tatopani.
Nepal is Tibet’s largest trading partner.

PM BHATTARAI PUSHES CCHINA’S SAARC MEMBERSHIP’CALLS FOR ELECTRIC TRAIN SERVICE BETWEEN NEPAL, CHINA,INDIA





Kathmandu, 15 Sept : Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai Wednesday said that China should join the South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation (SAARC) so as to boost cooperation and accelerate economic development in the region, The Rising Nepal reports.
"The Chinese economy has remained exemplary to many developing countries of the world. Moreover, its development scenario can have direct impact and inspiration to many countries with geographical proximity," said the Prime Minister.
China is the next-door neighbour to 5 out of the 8 SAARC countries. Therefore, its involvement in the SAARC has been inevitable as was to the United Nations in 1971, Dr Bhattarai said inaugurating the second convention of China South Asia Friendship Organisations Forum.
Stating that the conflicting relations between China and India during the cold war era had evaporated as evidenced by the increase in trade volume between these countries, Dr Bhattarai proposed for an electric train between China and India through Nepal so as to link the fastest growing economies of the world.
In the present context, the intra and inter-state conflicts have become a matter of past in the region. India and China have been the fastest growing economies of the world with nearly double-digit growth. Both countries like to live in peace and harmony and carry on their rapid economic growth, the Prime Minister remarked.
We have the common Himalayan culture and civilization in South Asia. China. and Nepal take pride in being gateway to these civilizations. The population of South Asia, China put together, could be nearly half of the world population. But many countries in this region still need to strive hard to eradicate poverty. To attain these targets, countries of South Asia and China must unite.
"Nepal would like to act like a vibrant bridge between these two historic regions, rather than the traditional buffer state" Dr. Bhattarai said.
South Asia and China could work together for trade, tourism, transportation and infrastructure development, transfer of technology in human resources management, agricultural development, and social development in sectors like health and education and environment conservation, the Prime Minister suggested.
Lauding the initiation of the convention, the PM said that such meetings would enhance people to people relations and promote track-2 diplomacy.
Chinese ambassador to Nepal, Yang Haulan, referred to the age-old economic and cultural exchanges between the South Asian countries and China and remarked that the exchanges had greatly contributed to the economic, social and cultural development.
Referring to the rapidly growing trade volume between China and South Asia, ambassador Yang said China would stick to peace for development.
Charge d’affaires of the Pakistani Embassy and the deputy chief of mission of the Indian Embassy also spoke in the programme wishing the success of the forum.
Jointly organized by Nepal-China Society and Nepal-China Executives Council, the meeting will run for three days. More than 30 delegates from five SAARC countries and China will be discussing contemporary issues to bring peace, stability and harmony in the region.

OUTDATED DRUGS SOLD THROUGH PHRAMACIES NEXT TO HOSPITALS





Kathmandu, 15 Sept : An investigation by the Department of Drug Administration (DDA) has found that Kathmandu based pharmacies were selling date expired drugs and surgical materials that carried no price tags, The Rising Nepal reports.
The DDA and representatives of the Consumer’s Right Forum conducted the investigation in some pharmacies of Kathmandu Wednesday.
The team found Hamro Pharmacy in front of the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital sold narcotic substances with other drugs. They were date expired and without price tags.
Medicine supervisor of DDA Shyam Adhikari said that they did not find un-registered medicines.
The team found glucose carried no expiry date.
Hamro Pharmacy also has not renewed its agreement with the Teaching Hospital for five years. However, the team said that it was not DDA’s responsibility to look into the matter.
During the investigation of Himal Hospital Pharmacy at Gyaneshwor, the team found that the store of the hospital did not meet the standards.
The team informed that it would seize the outdated medicines within seven days of store and it also directed the store to maintain standards.
Doctor’s blunder
Meanwhile, Our Correspondent adds from Chitwan that, in yet another case of medical negligence, a doctor in Chitwan Wednesday attempted a surgery for appendicitis of a patient admitted at the Narayani Community Hospital for hysterectomy.
Dr. Lok Bahadur Sedhai of Hospital was stopped by the relatives of the patient before he could do the damage.
Hospital administration has accepted the mistake from the doctor’s side.
Patient Laxmi Simkhada of eastern Chitwan, Khairhani, had been admitted to the hospital for hysterectomy. Relatives of patients disagreed with Dr. Sedhai as he tried to carry out an appendicitis surgery on her.
Simkhada’s relatives got the patient’s file rechecked at Om Hospital near the Narayani Hospital after they developed some suspicion about the handling of her file.
Brother of the Simkhada Laxman Rijal said that the hospital admitted its mistake.
