NC CENTRAL COMMITTEE MEET ADJOURNED FOR FOUR DAYS

Kathmandu, 9 Sept. A central committee meeting of main opposition NC was adjourned Thursday evening for four days until Monday amid deep differences.
Senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba opposed a proposal of General Secretary Prakash Man Singh to dissolve four affiliated organizations.
Singh has proposed dissolution to conduct their general conventions after end of their tenures.

Kathmandu, 9 Sept.: Prativa Subedi, a social worker and founder president of Women Awareness Center Nepal, has been selected for the Swiss Women’s World Summit Foundation (WWSF) award.
She will receive a $1,000 cash prize 15 October coinciding with Rural women’s Day.

RNA HONG KONG FLIGHTS IN DOUBT AFTER RAT INCIDENT

Kathmandu, 9 Sept.: Hong Kong Civil Aviation Authority is considering suspension of Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) flights on grounds its flights don’t meet ICAO standards, Shila Pandey reports in Kantipur.
A source said a report of Hong Kong’s health inspection team submitted a report Thursday saying adequate attention wasn’t given to security and health issues following a check.
The source said the report has been submitted to Hong Kong station manager Gauri LaLDangi.
“A question has arisen whether flights should be permitted. or not. Minimum standards weren’t kept. They have expressed dissatisfaction over rubbish and unhygienic condition,” a source said.
A rat was trapped onboard a RNA aircraft Thursday morning, Nirmal Shrestha reports in Kantipur from Hong Kong.
Success came at six in the morning Thursday after efforts for a search began Tuesday.
But the trapped rat suddenly escaped three hours later.

INVESTORYOF ORNAMENTS AT HANUMANDHOKA COMPLETED





Kathmandu, Sept. 9: The Department of Archeology (DoA) has completed the estimation of the ancient period ornaments and artifacts that were discovered on June 27 at Hanumandhoka Durbar Square during the renovation of treasure rooms, The Rising Nepal reports.
The DoA has valued the ornaments at about Rs. 250 million on the basis of historical and cultural importance of the ornaments.
The government has formed a team under the coordination of Bishnu Raj Karki, Director General of DoA to ascertain the real worth of the ornaments after found three metal boxes with ornaments and artifacts were found at the store room. DoA has been to carry out the investigation of historical items and recommend appropriate method to preserve the ornaments after completing the investigation.
The treasure trove, which went missing following the earthquake of 1990 B.S were relocated underneath the store room.
According to the team, there are about two kilograms of gold and around 47 kilograms of silver ornaments, along with dozens of artifacts dating back to the Malla era. They were discovered from the historical storehouse that had remained closed since time immemorial. The items were believed to be 500 years old.
The team has had three month time to complete the investigation and to find out ways for the protection on and management of the treasurer trove. The deadline will come to its end on the October 6.
The team almost completed the task of packing the ornaments for protection including published date, up date weight comparing with previous and recent weight and donor’s name, informed Karki.
Among the total ornaments, 60 per cent would be kept at museum for exhibition. The rest of ornaments, 40 per cent of the, are broken thus out of shape, he said.
It is estimated that 99 per cent of ornaments were donated by Kathmandu valley people in different eras as offers to the gods and goddesses. Some silver wooden sandal (kharau) founded whish was offered in Janakapur Temple.
There are some coins of eras of Jaya Prakash Malla, Pratap Singh Shah and Rana Bahadur Shah, he said.
The 18th century golden crown, stone attached silver crown, five red stone attached peacock image crown, eight pieces crown (Nepal Sambat 973), seven mouth oillamp, Chhattra, karuwa, mandala, lion shape mandamala with 680 Arabian coins, 1,875 copper coins and 8 Tibetan coins were also found.
