SHER BAHADUR DEUBA OPPOSES CENTRAL COMMITTEE DECISION

SHER BAHADUR DEUBA SAID DISSOLUTION UNDEMOCTATIC AND START OF TIKE PROCESS UPDATE

Kathmandu, 21 Sept. Senior NC leader Sher Bahadur Deuba said Wednesday the party central committee decision Wednesday to dissolve executive committees of four sister organizations was undemocratic and start of a ‘tike pratha’.e
‘This is an undemocratic and start of a tike pratha,” the three-time prime minister said.
Tike pratha is a procedure to nominate persons to fill positions and not through elections.
Deuba said there was an agreement between him and Girija Prasad Koirala, prime minister and party president, not to dissolve executive committees of sister organizations before party unification.
‘This agreement was part of the unification process,: Deuba claimed.
“It [dissolution of executive bodies] is a decision against the agreement. We oppose the decision. We can’t accept an undemocratic decision,” Deuba added
President Sushil Koirala also started discussions on how to tackle the dissent in the main opposition party.
Senior leaders Govinda Raj Joshi and Khum Bahadur Khadka, both home ministers, in the Girija caibnet, joined the Deuba camp Wednesday.

SAARC WOMEN LAWMAKERS MEET PRESIDENT
Kathmandu, 21 Sept.: Female lawmakers from the countries of South Asian Association Regional Cooperation (SAARC) met President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav at the President's Office in Sheetal Niwas on Wednesday, RSS reports.

President Dr. Yadav lauded the efforts made by the conference of the female lawmakers from SAARC countries and extended best wishes to them, according to Secretary at the Ministry of Education, Shankar Prasad Pandey.

Present at the meeting were 24 lawmakers from the SAARC countries including Nepal, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Maldives, Bhutan and Afghanistan. However, there was no representation of Sri Lanka in the delegation.

The lawmakers from other countries arrived in the Capital to participate in a two-day long conference for gender equity and education for girls.
