SIX MISSING IN RUKUM FOLLOWING LANDSLIDE
Kathmandu, 5 Sept.: Six persons have gone missing Monday evening at a settlement in Rukm following a landslide, Radio Nepal reports in its 11 PM news bulletin.
Details weren’t immediately available.

Kathandu, 5 Sept.: United Nations Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Cheick Sidi Diarra paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai at the latter’s office in Singha Durbar on Monday, RSS reports.
Problems and challenges being faced by LDCs were discussed during the meeting. Also discussed were the effective implementation, follow-up and monitoring of the Istanbul Programme of Action (IPoA), which was adopted at the Fourth UN Conference on LDCs held in Istanbul, Turkey in May this year, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On the occasion, Mr Diarra appreciated the role played by Nepal in the capacity of the Chair of the Global Coordination Bureau of the LDCs on substantive preparations of the Fourth UN Conference on LDCs.
Prime Minister Dr Bhattarai on the occasion stressed on the need of achieving strong and high economic development and structural transformation in the LDCs so as to enable them to graduate from their current status as early as possible.
Dr Bhattarai also expressed the confidence that the United Nations would continue to play an important role to ensure an effective implementation and follow up and monitoring of the IPoA and assured him of Nepal’s readiness to do utmost in the capacity of the current chair of the Global Coordination Bureau of the LDCs to ensure effective implementation of IPoA.
Also today, USG Diarra paid a courtesy call on Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Narayan Kaji Shrestha ‘Prakash’ at the latter’s office and discussed matters relating to the effective implementation of the Istanbul Programme of Action.
USG Diarra also had a meeting with the officiating Foreign Secretary Durga Prasad Bhattarai at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at Singha Durbar today.
United Nations Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the LDCs, LLDCs and SIDS, Mr. Diarra is on a three-day visit to Nepal at the invitation of the Government of Nepal since September 4.
