SUSHIL KOIRALA SAYS UNIDENTIFIED PERSONS IN PARTY ATTEMPTING TO PROVE HIM A FAILURE
Kathmandu, 24 Sept.: President Sushil Koirala charged Saturday there attempts in the NC pull his legs and prove him a failure in the main opposition party.
He confessed failure to deliver results even one year after his election as party chief to succeed his cousin Girija Prasad Korala.
Koirala visited party headquarters in the capital Saturday and asked supporters of senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba to give up their death fasts protesting a party decision to disband executive committees of four fraternal organizations opposing dissolution of their executive committees.
The president assured the Deuba loyalists he’ll take everybody together; but supporters of the three time former prime minister ignored the Koirala appeal to abandon the fasts.
Three more strikers fell sick Saturday requiring hospital treatment.
Party Secretary General Prakash Man Singh said an institutional decision won’t be changed to satisfy one person.
Thirty-three NC lawmakers called in the party to rescind a central committee (CC) decision to dissolve executive committees that completed their elected tenures amid charges from the establishment faction the bodies were ineffective.
The lawmakers called the dissolution ‘undemocratic and immature’ at a time unity and understanding is needed even with other parties.
Deuba is convening a meeting of party district presidents to pressurize Korala to withdraw his decision saying the body’s last meeting in Dhulikhel decided incumbent committees should conduct fresh elections.
Deuba, who is seeking to take over reigns of party control, charged the current party leadership has sidelined written conditions with Girija Prasad for unification following a splint nearly five years ago.
“We are protesting against an increasing trend of favouritism and nepotism in the party,” Deuba said.
He charged Sushil Koirala for lying when the party president claimed there was no agreement between them on how to conduct affairs.
:”Can the president lie?” Deuba asked in an interview with Annapurna Post Saturday and said Krishna Prasad Shitaula, Pakash Man Singh and Dr. Shashanka Koirala were present when the understanding between the two were reached.
