UML PROTESTS PRESSURE FOR RESIGNATIONS OF SEVEN VICE-CHANCELLORS UPDATE
Kathmandu, 13 Sept. UML in a formal statement Tuesday protested what it called intervention in independent affairs on autonomous bodies when Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal demanded resignations of seven vice-chancellors appointed by the previous government.
The Baburam Bhattarai government sought the resignations of seven vice-chancellors appointed by the Khanal government.
The UML said competent educations were appointed.
Six of seven vice-chancellors agreed to resign Tuesday following the premier’s intervention.
There was no agreement between professors affiliated with NC and Maoists on resignation of university chiefs, except the vice-chancellor of Sanskrit University.
Padlocks were immediately removed at Tribhuvan University placed there and other universities one month ago.
Agreement was reached between government and educationists to appoint vice-chancellors through consultation with major parties.
