DASAIN 2011 CONCLUDES WITH WORSHIP OF GODDESS MAHALAXMI

Kathmandu, 11 Oct. Dasain 2011 celebrations ended Tuesday with
the evening worship of Goddess Mahalaxmi on Kojagrath Purnima.
Dasain was observed and celebrated in clear and sunny weather condition even as an extended monsoon retreated over Nepal only days earlier although many had expected an ‘hilahe’ for a wet and muddy festive season.
Paddy transplanted planted early along rivers and where irrigation facilities were harvested before the celebrations and worship of Goddesses Bhawani started.
With good and timely rain, another bumper harvest is expected for the second consecutive year.
Government offices have re-opened after an extended holiday but the streets aren’t crowded indicating most of the capital’s residents have returned to the capital from districts and across the border in India.
Probably, only government officials have returned
Only the capital’s ‘adivashi’ or permanent residents for generations stayed home in the capital.
Vehicles are moving along easily on the streets without the proverbial
traffic jams with less residents
Kathmandu has a large migratory population.
Many residents may not return before Tihar celebrations end 28 October coinciding with bhai tika and chatt a festival of terai residents 1 November.
