Kathmandu, 12 Oct : Dr Govinda Bhatta, ex-chairman of Gorkhapatra Sansthan,died Wednesday.
A keep student of Nepal-China relations, Bhatta died whle undergoing treatment at Gangalal Hospital, Bansbari.
He was 73.

SOCKET BOMBS DEFUSED IN NEIGHBOURING SINDHUPALCHOW
Kathmandu, 12 Oct.: : A bomb disposal team of the Nepal Army defused six socket bombs found at Attarpur VDC in Sindhupalchowk district this afternoon, RSS reports from Sindhupalchowk.
Locals found three bombs at a grassy terrain near Sikre Bazaar at Ward No. 8 and others at a bamboo grove.
Police Inspector at the District Police Office Ek Narayan Koirala suspected that UCPN-Maoist might have left the bombs during the armed conflict period.

SPEAKER NEMWANG ATTEMPTS TO COMPLETE PEACE AND CONSTITITION, ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE IMMEDIATELY
Kathmandu, 12 Oct.: Speaker Subas Nembang has urged the fringe political parties in the Constituent Assembly to create a positive pressure for peace and new constitution, RSS reports.

Apprising leaders and representatives of the small parties of the discussion he held with the senior leaders of the major political parties, in a meeting of the State Affairs Committee today, Speaker Nembang appealed to the parties to exert pressure for peace and constitution.

Immediately after the Dashain festival, Speaker Nembang had called on senior leaders of the major political parties and discussed with them about completing the peace process and the constitution writing process as soon as possible.

Accordingly, Nembang met with leaders and representatives of 14 fringe political parties represented in the Legislature-Parliament.

Talking to media persons following the discussion, Speaker Nembang said as the major parties were promising of bringing out a result in the peace process this time around he urged the smaller parties to support as well as exert pressure to conclude the process.

He also said that he was more hopeful this time around that the senior leaders would keep their word of reaching to a conclusion.

The Speaker said the leaders of the big parties also told him that they would sit for a dialogue this time around with a definite conclusion.

Co-president of Rastriya Janashakti Party, Dr. Prakash Chandra Lohani called for an end to the tendency of small parties being compelled to accept the dialogue held by the big ones in closed door and star hotels by ignoring the CA committees and units.

Smaller parties taking part in the discussion today were the CPN-ML, the CPN-United, the Rastriya Janashakti Party, the NWPP, the Sadbhawana Anandidevi and others.

SENIOR AND CONTROVERSIAL UN OFFICIAL SAMUEL TAMRAT BACK IN TOWN
Kathmandu, 12 Oct. Director of the Department of Political Affairs, Asia Pacific Bureau of the United Nations, Samuel Tamrat called on Constituent Assembly (CA) Chairman, Subas Chandra Nembang, at the latter's office in Singha Durbar on Tuesday, RSS reports.

During the meeting, Tamrat inquired about the progress in the ongoing peace process and the constitution drafting.

On the occasion, Nembang apprised Tamrat of the achievements in ongoing peace process and constitution writing process.

According to the Legislature-Parliament Secretariat, the visiting MP of the United Kingdom, Emma Reynolds, also called on Nembang today.

ENERGY UNIT LAUNCHED

Kathmandu, 12 Oct.: An Energy Systems Planning and Analysis Unit (ESPAU) has been established for the first time in Nepal with an objective of helping formulate energy related plans and programmes by updating the statistics of the overall energy of the country, RSS reports from Lalitpur.

The unit has been established at the Center for Energy Studies (CES), Institute of Engineering, Tribhuwan University and will provide details every six months on the actual data and its analysis of the country’s energy to the government and other bodies.


The unit is established with joint efforts of the Centre, the Vienna University of Technology, and the Institute for Energy System and Thermodynamics.

It was established with the investment of the Austrian Partnership Programme in Higher Education and Research for Development (APPEAR) and will start studies on energy system planning and economics on masters level from the next academic session, said Director of the Centre, Dr. Triratna Bajracharya.

Meanwhile, the Institute of Engineering of Nepal and the Harbin Institute of Technology of China signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the sectors of urban water resource and environment, today.

It will help make polluted water potable by purifying to lessen the shortage of drinking water in the town areas of the country and make energy from bio-garbage and run projects for energy crisis resolution.

Important works can be accomplished in the sector of energy and environment with the co-work of the institute which has expertise of international level in producing hydro-energy from the water purification and bio-garbage, said Director Dr. Bajracharya.

Signing the memorandum, Dean of the Institute of Engineering, TU, Prof. Bharat Raj Pahari expressed the confidence that the impact of climate change could be minimized from the management of garbage in cooperation with the two institutes.

Dean of the Harbin Institute of Technology, Prof. Nanqi Ren said the experience achieved in the use of polluted water and garbage in town areas of various countries of the world including China will be effective in Nepal.

ADB VICE-CHAIRMAN ZHAO CALLS ON PM



Kathmandu, 12 Oct.: Vice-chairman of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Xiaoyu Zhao, had a courtesy call on Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai at the latter's office at Singha Durbar on Wednesday, RSS reports.

Talking to journalists after the meeting, ADB Vice-chairman Zhao said the two held discussions on ADB's support for the economic development of Nepal.

Zhao, who had come to participate in the energy conference to be held in the Capital from Thursday, discussed on ADB's support for road, education, energy, and physical infrastructure development, on the occasion. He added that ADB and Nepal always had good relations.

Similarly, Indonesian non-resident Ambassador to Nepal Zet Mirzaz Za Innuddin also had a courtesy call on Prime Minister Dr. Bhattarai at the latter's office at Singha Durbar, today.

During the meeting, the two held talks on bilateral relations and mutual cooperation between Nepal and Indonesia.

Meanwhile, Minister for Finance Barshaman Pun and Vice-chairman of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Zhao met at the Ministry of Finance, today.

During the meeting, Minister for Finance Pun told Zhao that the government had been continuously working for good governance, observing austerity and creating more employment opportunities.

According to Joint Secretary of the Foreign Aid Coordination Department under the ministry, Lalshanker Ghimire, Zhao assured to provide additional 100 million dollars to Nepal on the support that Nepal has been receiving.

Zhao is in Nepal to participate in a conference of energy forum being organised by the government and ADB jointly.
