QUAKE MARS DASAIN 2011 CELEBRATIONS
Kathmandu, 11 Oct.: Dasain 2011 was observed weeks after September’s biggest earthquake in 78 years leaving behind a trail of death and destruction, especially in east Nepal.
In the capital, only three persons were killed when a reclining compound wall of British embassy collapsed killing three persons.
Houses built with mud collapsed and damaged them, particularly Hanuman Dhoka Palace and Shital Niwas.
Probably because the epicenter of the quake was 300km, away from the capital on Taplujung/Sikkim border, damage in the capital was
nominal.
High-rise apartments in the capital withstood the quake.
Sixteen persons, including six Nepalis,were killed just before Dasain
marring celebrations of some families.

FIVE SOCKET BOMBS ABANDONED DURING MAOIST
PEOPLE’S WERE RECOVERED
Kathmandu 11 Oct.: Five socket bombs abandoned during the Maoist people’s war were found at a house in Attarpuri, Sindhupalchowk, Tuesday.
The house has been sealed.
The abandoned bombs will be defused Wednesday, police said.
Such abandoned bombs are recovered regularly even with the end of the insurgency.
Some casualties have been caused by abandoned although Nepal has been declared mine free.
