NC GENERAL SECRETARY PRAKASH MAN SINGH ASKS MAOISTS TO BE RESPONSIBLE
Kathmandu, 26 Oct.: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Prakashman Singh has said the UCPN-Maoist, the single largest party in the Constituent Assembly (CA), has to be more responsible towards peace process and constitution drafting, RSS reports.
Addressing a Deusi Bhailo (cultural singing and dancing) programme organised on the occasion of the Tihar Festival by the Nepal Press Union here on Wednesday, Singh said, "Peace and constitution are the top priorities of the Nepali Congress".
The UCPN-Maoist should return the arms on possession of its combatants to the government, return the seized property to the rightful owners and dismantle the paramilitary structure of the Young Communist League so as to give a momentum to the peace process, stressed the NC leader.
Despite maximum efforts by all political parties, the peace process could not reach to a conclusion due to an intra-party conflict in the UCPN-Maoist, he added.
Calling the meeting of the Special Committee and the three major parties at the earliest and accelerating the peace process was the need of the hour, said Singh, adding that the NC was ready to extend a constructive support to the government by staying in the opposition.
Union President Kiran Pokharel stressed the need to intensity talks and discussions among the parties to complete the peace process and constitution drafting process as per the people's aspirations.
