THREE IMMIGRATION OFFICIALS SUSPENDED

Kathmandu, 3 Nov.: Three officials of the Department of Immigration have been suspended after a secret video recording was made public of an official at the capital’s Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) collecting a cash bribe from a woman to secure a flight to USA.
The official delayed her departure charging she was traveling on a forged Nepali passport. Dechan Sherpa of Solu flew out of the country but only after bribing the official.
Section Officer Hari Prasad Neupane, Senior Immigration Assistant Nain Bahadur Karki and Computer Assistant Bishwantar Sukubhutu were suspended.

18 TIBETAN REFUGEES ATTEMPT SELF-IMMOLATION
Kathmandu, 3 Nov.: Nepal Police today [Wednesday] foiled a group of Tibetan exiles’ alleged bid ‘to self-immolate’ and arrested 18 Free Tibet activists at Bhanimandal area in Sanepa, Lalitpur.

According to Central Police News Section, 18 Tibetans, including 10 women, were arrested acting on an intelligence tip that ‘they had come out of Bhanimandal-based Tibetan Refugee Camp with kerosene in jerry can ‘for the purpose of setting themselves ablaze’ at around 1.10 pm.

“Police personnel deployed by the Metropolitan Police Range, Jawalakhel, went after them leading to their arrests in possession of kerosene as they were likely to commit criminal activities,” said CPNS. They have been kept in MPR custody for further investigation.

Earlier, police had intervened in a peaceful prayer meeting in Lalitpur and rounded up 58 alleged Free Tibet activists, including 41 women, yesterday. The prayer service was meant for expressing solidarity with their comrades in their homeland of Tibet and wish for eternal peace to the monks and nuns who had self-immolated in protest of China rule.

They had also displayed posters and banners of the Dalai Lama, and Tibetan monks and nuns, who self-immolated to protest the alleged Chinese repression in Tibet. Ten ethnic Tibetans have set themselves ablaze across in China in the past six months.

Nepal, home to more than 22,000 Tibetan exiles, sticks to ‘One China Policy’ and has vowed not to let its soil be used against its neighbours.

TIBET OFFICIAL HOLDS CONSULTATIONS WITH PM BHATTARAI

Kathmandu, 3 Nov.: Executive Deputy Chairman of the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) of the People’s Republic of China, Wu Yingjie, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Dr, Baburam Bhattarai at his office in Singha Durbar this [Wednesday] afternoon, RSS reports.

Wu also called on the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar, Minister for Local Development Top Bahadur Rayamajhi and the Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Ganesh Raj Joshi.

Matters of bilateral relations and mutual interests including the areas of cooperation between Nepal and Tibet Autonomous Region of the People’s Republic of China were discussed during the meetings, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release today.

Wu is visiting Nepal in connection with the 13th Nepal-China Tibet Economic and Trade Fair, 2011 which was held at local Bhrikutimandap today [Wednesday].

MINOR DIFFERENCES WON’T WEAKED BILATERAL TIES: INDIAN

Kathmandu, 3 Nov.: Indian Ambassador to Nepal Jayanta Prasad has said the governments of both the countries are on discussion to resolve the problems surfaced at Nepal-India border, RSS reports from Nepalgunj.

At an interaction programme organized by Nepal-India Border Area Journalists Forum bringing together journalists from both the countries, he further said, ‘As India’s development depends on Nepal’s prosperity so that India will always be in the forefront in assisting Nepal’s development efforts’.

Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai’s recent India visit has been highly successful in improving relations between the two countries and opening up avenues for development, Prasad claimed, expressing confident that tiny matters emerging in politics will never affect the friendly relations between Nepal and India.

Ambassador Prasad also expressed happiness over the Nepal striding towards lasting peace.

Chairperson of Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Shiva Gaunle the bilateral ties between Nepal and India is very close and friendly not on the basis of power and government but due to feelings.

Constituent Assembly (CA) members Mohammedi Siddiki, Badshah Kurmi and Sarbadev Ojha said people of Nepal and India always wish to see cordial relations between the two countries.

Chairperson of Nepal-India Friendly Association Nepal Chapter Purnalal Chuke presided over the interaction programme.

There is the participation of working journalists from Lakhnau, Kanpur and Baharaich of India and Nepalgunj area of Nepal in the interaction to last today [Thursday].
