Kathmanndu, 25 Nov.: The 30th World Elephant Polo competition is going to kick off from November 28 in Meghauli of western Chitwan, RSS reports from Chitwan..

The five-day event will have eight teams as participants including two from home and six foreign, said organiser and Tiger Tops Hotel General Manager Yadav Bantawa. The event will help make Tourism Year 2011 a success, according to the organisers.

The completion will be held at the airport grounds in Meghauli where foreign nationals James Man Clark and the late Jim Edwards had started it in Meghauli 27 years ago.

The sport event was first introduced by Nepal in 1981 and has been gaining worldwide popularity in recent years, with Sri Lanka and Thailand organising such tournaments in their respective countries.

TASK FORCE FORMED TO DEMOLISH ILLEGAL STRUCTURES ALONG BAGMATI RIVER
Kathmandu, 25 Nov.: A meeting convened by the Home Ministry on Friday has formed a high-level taskforce for removing the illegal structures constructed on the bank of the Bagmati River, RSS reports.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar chaired the meeting.

The Taskforce has been assigned the responsibility to prepare an action plan for removing the human settlements devolved there by encroaching the river land and other illegal constructions on its banks, according to a press statement issued by the Home Ministry.

Chairman of the High-Level Bagmati Civilisation Integrated Development Committee, Mahesh Bahadur Basnet is the coordinator of the Taskforce that comprises senior officers from the government bodies as the member representatives.

The meeting also decided to take initiative for controlling land encroachment taking place on other rivers inside the Kathmandu Valley and manage security for that purpose if necessary.

Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bhimraj Chaudhary Rajbanshi, secretaries at the Ministry of Local Development and the Ministry of Environment, office –bearers of the Ministries of Law of Justice, Land Reform and Management, Physical Planning and Works, chiefs of the three security bodies, high level Bagmati civilization committee representatives and representatives from local bodies were among those attending the meeting.
