BIG THREE FORM MONITORING BODY TO OVERSEE IMPLEMENTATION OF SEVEN-POINT ACCORD

Kathmandu, 5 Nov. The Big Three—UCPN (Maoist), NC and UML Saturday formed a three-member monitoring body with one representative each of the three parties to implement this week’s seven point
agreement to conclude the peace process ad constitution drafting.
Barsha Man Pun from Maoists, nominated General Secretary Krishna Prasad Shitaula and Bhim Rawal, a former home minister of UML, are members of the monitoring team.
The three parties agreed to implement that has been called a historic and landmark agreement.
The summit was held before Maoist Chairman Prachanda flies for New York for consultations with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
The Maoist Chief said international support to implement the
breakthrough agreement.
“I’m not only seeking help for the development of Lumbini
but also international support for implementing the seven-point agreement. It’s implementation is not possible without international support,” Prachanda said after the summit.

FAREWELL FOR PRACHANDA MAN SHRESTHA CEO OF NTB

Kathmandu, 5 Nov.: A farewell reception was held Wednesday
by tourism entrepreneurs for Prachanda Man Shrestha, CEO of
Nepal Tourism Board (NTB).
Shrestha retired 1 November after a four-year stint with NTB which
promotes tourism.
He was appointed 1 November 2007 and applications have been sought for his replacement.
Shrestha joined NTB after retiring as joint secretary in the industry, commerce and supplies ministry.
He was involved in successful negotiations for Nepal’s membership of
WTO and also worked with the tourism ministry.

SIDDHARTHA BANK ANNONCES CASH DIVIDEND,
BONUS SHARES

Kathmandu, 5 Nov.: Siddhartha Bank announced a cash dividend of 12.79 percent for shareholders along with three percent bonus shares from
its profit for fiscal year 2010/11.
The bank recorded a Rs.311.4 million net profit.

TWO TRUCKS WITH SMUGGLED CLOTHES SEIZED
Kathmandu, 5 Nov.: A police patrol squad took control two trucks of clothes while being imported illegally at around 4 on Saturday morning, RSS reports from Bhadrapur..

The patrol team of Nepal Police took the clothe-laden trucks under control in Birtamodh while heading towards west from Nepal’s eastern checkpoint Kakadbhitta, according to Area Police Office, Birtamodh.

Investigation into the case is underway, police added.

The clothes will be handed over to Mechi Customs Office in Kakadbhitta after assessing the worth of the confiscated items, police office informed.

VEC SECRETARIES DEMAND APPOINTMMENT OF PEOPLE’S REPRESENTATIVES
Kathmandu, 5 Nov.: The VDC Secretary Rights and Welfare Protection Committee, Kanchanpur has demanded to make necessary arrangement of people’s representatives at local bodies, RSS reports from Kanchanpur.

Central Vice-chairperson of the Committee, Durga Prasad Khanal demanded that favorable working environment should be made with the promulgation of constitution so that VDC secretaries could work without any fear and terror.

He also demanded the government implement the nine-point and six-point agreement reached with VDC Secretaries

WIDESPREAD ABUSE OF CHILD SMUGGLERS PREVAIL
Kathmanndu, 5 Nov.: Though it is punishable act to engage children in vulnerable works, their use in smuggling occurred on the Nepal-India border has not been ceased
Yet, RSS reports from Panityanki.

The school-going-aged children are being used in smuggling on border areas in an uninterrupted manner by bringing them under the influence of money.

Especially the parents, who have been unemployed for the past few years, are sending their children to undertake such abusive works without any hesitation.

Children are used to carry goods via main gate of Biratnagar customs office and illegal routes. They worked as a carrier to bring customs duty evaded goods of smugglers in bordering market Jogbani and Rani area of Biratnagar.

Some of the children used in such works are physically challenged.

The innocent children do not get due remuneration from smugglers however they are used to undertake such risky job.

The trend has even increased when the police and customs offices evade checking the children and release them with minor warning.

More than 100 children are engaged to carry various goods in Biratnagar Jogbani checkpoint, according to activists of UPCA Nepal crusading for child rights.
