EU PARLIAMENT DELEGATION MEETS SUSHIL KOIRALA AS TEAM ARRIVES IN NEPAL WHEN CA TENURE ENDS 30 NOV; DEADLINE TO CONCLUDE OEACE AND WRITE CONSTITUTION WON'T BE MET AS DESIRED BY EU

EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT TEAM, SUSHIL KOIRALA HOLD TALKS

Kathmandu, 25 Nov.: A delegation comprising of three members headed by Chairman of the European Parliament for South Asia Jean Lambert called on Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai at the latter´s office at Singha Durbar on Friday, RSS reports.

On the occasion, discussions were held between Dr. Bhattarai and the delegation on support of the European Union in Peace Process and on matters of mutual interest, informed Office of the Prime Minister.


Prime Minister Dr. Bhattarai familiarized the delegation about the progress in the ongoing peace process and constitution-drafting.

Similarly, Lambert also met Nepali Congress (NC) President Sushil Koirala at the latter´s residence at Maharajgunj, today.

During the meeting, the duo held talks on ongoing peace process, constitution drafting and economic development in Nepal.

Talking to media persons after the meeting, Chairman Lambert said they held talks on constitution-writing, peace process, employment and economic development of Nepal.

According to central member of NC, Dr. Ramsharan Mahat, who was also present in the meeting, they familiarized Chairman Lambert about the situation of peace process, progress in constitution-writing and political situation of Nepal.

During the meeting, Lambert was briefed that although some progress had been seen in regrouping of the PLA combatants after seven-point agreement, the seized properties were not returned as per the agreement.

Dr. Mahat further said they also informed that some progress was made with positive signs in peace process and constitution writing but no works were done from the Maoist side.

35,000 OFFICIALS TO BE FINED RS. 5,000 FOR NOT DECLARING ASSETS
Kathmandu, 25 Nov.: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) is to fine 35,000 civil servants for not submitting their property details within 60 days of the conclusion of the fiscal year 2010/11.

A namelist of the civil servants was received to the Commission from the National Vigilance Centre, and thereby a decision taken to fine them, said CIAA spokesperson Iswari Prasad Poudel.

They will be fined Rs. 5,000 each as per Clause 50 (3) of the Corruption Prevention Act, 2059 B.S.

The Commission shall write to the concerned Ministry/Secretariat/Bodies to recover the fine amount from the civil servants, who failed to follow the mandatory requirement of submitting their property details .
