NC VP ACCUSES MAOISTS OF MAKING PRETENTIONS
Kathmandu, 14 Nov.: Vice President of the Nepali Congress (NC) Ram Chandra Paudel accused the UCPN-Maoist of making different pretensions to avoid the implementation of the seven-point peace deal, RSS reports.

Inaugurating a two-day national seminar on 'Infrastructures for Prosperous Nepal' in the capital on Monday, Paudel said the Maoists were working to negate the agreement.

Leader Paudel, however, said that the Maoist party cannot go beyond the seven-point agreement adding that the Maoists should take responsibility if the peace process is derailed.

Paudel said that Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai and Maoist party were not serious on peace process adding that the political achievements would not be institutionalise until the Maoist party was honest.

Also speaking at the programme, NC leader Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat said that the Maoists cannot be trusted fully.

Tabling a working paper, former Vice-chairman of the National Planning Commission (NPC) Dr. Jagadish Chandra Pokhrel and economist Dr. Chiranjibi Nepal said that clear economic policy was needed for the epoch-making transformation of the country

Kathmandu, 14 Nov.: Maoist’s politburo member Agni Prasad Sapkota has claimed that Constituent Assembly member of his party, Bal Krishna Dhungel was innocent,
RSS reports.

At a programme organised on ‘PM’s Views, Comprehensive Peace Accord, Seven-point Deal’ by Media Vision Nepal in the Capital on Monday, leader Sapkota further said Ujjan Kumar Shrestha of Okhaldhunga was killed as per party’s decision because of spying against the party for the then security authorities.

He further accused that some of the human rights activists and organisations were trying to defame the people’s war by taking this issue to the International Court of Justice, Hague.

On the occasion, Nepali Congress leader Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat said recommending the President to grant clemency to CA member Dhungel was act of ridiculing the rule of law. It was against the seven-point agreement, he added.

Chairman of the Rastriya Janamorcha, Chitra Bahadur KC reiterated that the President must not grant amnesty to the criminal CA member Dhungel.

Similarly, human rights defender Subodh Raj Pyakurel said condoning CA member Dhungel was to violate international norms on law and justice.

It may be noted that the Supreme Court had on January 3, 2010 pronounced CA member Dhungel guilty of killing Ujjan Shrestha on June 24, 1998 and thereby sentenced him to life imprisonment along with confiscation of his property.
