KMC CHIEF DEFIES GOVT.
Kathmandu, 21 Nov.: Ganesh Rai, who was recently transferred to the Ministry of Local Development from the executive chief of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, has not only defied the decision of Cabinet, but the directives of the Prime Minister as well, Santosh P. Pokhrel writes in The Himalayan Times.
After finding that KMC has not been functioning well under Rai’s leadership, PM himself had come up with the idea of replacing him with another official.
Following the Cabinet decision on the first week of November, Rai was transferred to the MoGA reserve pool, however, he rejected the order and kept working at KMC, saying he had not received the tranfer letter.
According to PM Baburam Bhattarai, after learning about the case, he himself had directed the Chief Secretary to hand him the transfer letter.
Even after that, Rai has been on a foreign trip in the capacity of KMC chief at the Risk Sensitive Land Use Planning meeting in Ecuador. “I am shocked to hear that he has been on a foreign trip with a leader of my own party,” Bhattarai said.
Rai has been widely criticized for misusing funds during his two-year tenure at KMC.
