BUDDHIST PROTESTORS DEMAND REMOVAN OF PRACHANDA LFROM PANEL TO DEVELOP BIRTHPLACE OF THE BUDDHA
Kathmandu, 7 Dec.: Buddhist groups went ahead Wednesday with their announced protests against the appointment of Maoist Chairman Prachanda by government as coordinator of a Lumbini Development Committee.
Buddhists are protesting the appoint of a non-Buddhist communist leader to develop the birthplace with international support, including China and UN.
Prachanda heads a party that launched a guerrilla movement to establish a communist state in strategic Nepal between Asian giants in the bloodiest internal conflict in which more than 17,000 persons were killed on both sides of the conflict. in a rugged Himalayan state between India and China.
State security forces had to be mobilized to fight the insurgency.
A faction in the UCPN (Maoist) opposes the appointment.
Buddhism Preservation Committee launched a rally from Maitighar to New Baneshwor.
Prachanda has invited UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon to attend a conference in Nepal next year to develop the long-neglected birthplace of The Buddha.

RANAN FARROW, A SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE OF HILLARY CLINTON, ARRIVES
Kathmandu, 7 Dec.: Ranan Farrow, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s Special Advisor for Global Youth Issues, arrived in the capital for a four-day visit, US embassy said.
Farrow will interact with youth activists, students, politicians and media representatives.

PRESIDENT OF PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE HIT BY STONE
Kathmandu, 7 Dec. A stone hit Ram Nath Dhakal travelling in his car at Putali Sadak Wednesday.
The stone pierced a window pane and struck Dhakal.
Dhakal is president of parliament’s state affairs committee.
The committee chief from UML was returning home from parliament.

FATHER. SON KILLED IN TRACTOR ACCIDENT
Kathmandu, 7 Dec.: A father and a son were killed when a tractor plunged into a river at Jhalari-5 of Mahendranagar, Kanchanpur, overnight.
Two others, including Gokarna Chaudhary were injured.
