EU EMBASSIES WRITE DIRECTLY TO TOP LEADERS PUSHING TWO COMMISSIONS

Kathmandu, 6 Dec.: In an unprecedented diplomatic initiative by foreign embassies Tuesday, EU sent letters to top party leaders appreciating
commitments of the parties to establish Truth and Reconciliation Commission and Commission of Inquiry on Disappearances
The Union also offered suggestions to make the proposed law on transitional justice mechanisms meet international standard.
".We are concerned that the bills establishing the two commissions may be significantly weakened in a way that may prolong impunity and put Nepal in breach of its international obligations,/” a joint statement of embassies of the Union said
The move of the EU for direct written contacts with parties is almost interference in internal politics of Nepal.
Such direct written contacts of embassies with parties is unprecedented.
