MINISTER HRIDESH TRIPATHI RULES OUT
LOCAL ELECTIONS

Kathmandu, 13 Dec.: Minister for Physical Planning and Works Hridayesh Tripathi has rule out the possibility of elections of local bodies´ election in the present time, RSS reports.

He said local bodies´ elections could not be conducted at present though it has been difficult to carry out the development works in the local level due to the lack of elected representatives.

Tripathi said constitution writing process would be affected if the government was concentrated to the election in local level.

Addressing a programmme on ´Disaster Risk Management in the Municipalities of Nepal´ organised by Municipality Association of Nepal Tuesday, Tripathi said the political parties are holding discussion for forming a political mechanism to run local bodies based on consensus.

Japanese disaster risk management expert Junichi Miyakawa stressed controlling the risks effectively by making public aware and implementing the building code while constructing the buildings.

Executive director of the association Kala Nidhi Devkota said the programme was organised with a view to making the risk management programmes easier.

ARJUN NARSINGH NC DECRIES WRANGLING FOR GOVT. LEADERSHIP

Kathmandu, 13 Dec : Nepali Congress leader Arjun Narsingh KC has said that it was not appropriate to eye the post of prime minister by the top leaders of different political parties at a time of completing the historical responsibility of peace and constitution writing, RSS reeeeports from Nepalgunj.

Speaking at a press meet on Tuesday, leader KC said, “Leaders of all parties should realize that the posts of prime minister and ministers are less important this time.”

Mr. KC said democratic republic would not become successful until the people were kept free from violence. He said the political parties have no other options than to draft the new constitution within six months.

The Nepali Congress leader said, “Nepali Congress is not against federalism. But the federal states should be delineated based on capacity, not on ethnic lines.”

On the occasion, leader KC said the intra-party rift in the UCPN (Maoist) was hindering for the implementation of the seven-point peace deal.

4TH NATIONAL QUALITY FOOD DAY BEING OBSERVED
Kathmandu, 13 Dec.:The Department of Food Technology and Quality Control is observing the Fourth National Quality Food Day by organizing various programmes from Tuesday, RSS reports.

According to a press statement issued by the Department today, the Day will be observed for the next three days.

Some 80 cases related to food adulteration have been filed at the Department until the five months of the current fiscal year, the statement added. Most of them are related to dairy and dairy products, drinking water, edible oil and sweets.

It is stated that the Department has received assistance from the EC Nepal-WTO Assistance Program and UNIDO for strengthening its laboratory and the inspection services. Similarly, the process is underway for acquiring the Inspection Mobile Van for putting in place the food safety alert system and addressing and responding to complaints.

Necessary technical assistance has been received for implementation of the ISO 22000 system in different food industries, it is stated.

Besides, the Department has intensified market monitoring with a view to controlling food quality and stopping food adulteration, said Director General at the Department, Jeevan Prabha Lama through the statement.
