PRACHANDA SUSB-COMMITTEE MEETS FRIDAY TO DRAW UP CHEDULE TO PROMULGATE A CONSTIITUTION

PRACHANDA SUB-COMMITTEE DRAWING UP
SCHEDULE FRIDAY TO COMPLETE CONSTITUTION

Kathmandu, 2 Dec.: A dispute resolution sub-committee chaired by Maoist Chairman Prachanda to resolve differences on themes to be discussed differences on themes to be incorporated in a proposed constitution meets for the second consecutive day Friday to complete a schedule a draft in the next six months.
The promulgation to institutionalize a declared republic by an elected and self-appointed has been delayed for two years; constituent assembly (CA) tenure charged with responsibility to promulgate a basic law has now been extended four times—the last time after 30 November this year.
The Prachanda committee with representatives of major parties met again Friday after a fresh CA extension Thursday and decided to complete its new task in the given deadline of May 2012 by drawing up a work schedule.
The sub-committee met in the presence of Prime Minister Battarai and CA Chairman Subash Nemwang and Chairman of the main constitution drafting committee Nilambar Acharya.
The Prachanda committee reports to Nemwang.
Going by a judgment of the supreme court verdict, the CA will be dissolved if a constitution isn’t promulgated this time by the end of May 2012.
Members of the current unelected parliament have criticized the supreme court ruling charging the apex court has gone beyond its jurisdiction even as the legislature is again unelected and self-appointed and then the interim constitution lays down clear separation of powers between government, legislature and supreme court.
