SPEAKER SAY HE HAS BEEN TAKEN ABACK

SPEAKER SAYS HE WAS TAKEN ABACK BY SUPREME
COURT REJECTION OF GOVT., PARLIAMENT PETITION APPEALS

Kathmandu, 28 Dec.: Speaker Subash Nemwang said he was
taken aback Tuesday by a supreme court administrative decision to
reject petitions of the Office of the Prime Minister and Parliament Secretary seeking review of a landmark apex court verdict saying the six-month extension of the constituent assembly would be the last.
“I was taken aback,” he said
“The meaning of going for the review didn’t mean the
constitution couldn’t be promulgated in the extended six month
time.
‘It would be wise for the honouable court itself to address the questions raised in the review constitutionally and legally A legal and responsible outlet was adopted,” Nemwang added in going for a review
“In a democracy, a court shouldn’t interfere with the jurisdiction of the executive and the legislature. Whether to extend the tenure or not is a political issue. The people answer the issue.
‘The right of the constituent assembly has been encroached on,” Law Minister Brijesh Gupta said.
The executive and judiciary are on a collision course.
Government and parliament can seek a review of the rejection.
