UNITY STRESSED IN UML
UNITY STRESSED IN UML
Kathmandu, 14 Dec.: Top UML leaders Wednesday stressed unity in the second largest opposition party that led two successive governments before Prime Minister Bhattarai was installed more than three months ago.
Senior leader KP Sharma Oli wasn’t present at a party meeting Wednesday saying he was sick.
A three month campaign for mobilization and reinforcement was launched at party headquarters in Balkhu Wednesday.
“Panelism tendency has started in the party,: Chairman Jhalanath Khanal said while launching the campaign
“We must review this. It should be ended,” the party chief said.
The trend started with the last party general convention in Butwal.
Some leaders claimed factionalism has ended in the party with Wednesday’s programme
Khanal also added an initiative to end division has begun.
The party chief has initiated an initiative to bring in Oli, Amrit Bohara and Bamdev Gauta in parliament even as they lost parliamentary elections.
They are being projected as future leaders of a government.
“Unity is the present need. There was no unity in thinking,” Khanal said.
“Don’t follow individuals in the party,” top leader Madhav Kumar Nepal suggested.

23 DIE AFTER DRINKING BOOTLEG LIQUOR IN WEST BENGAL
Kathmandu, 14 Dec: Officials say 23 people have died after drinking bootleg liquor that sickened another 112 in a village in eastern India, AP reports from Kolkata.
Police official Surajit Kar Purkayastha says four people have been arrested in connection with making and distributing the toxic booze, which is often spiked with chemicals to increase its potency.
He says people began falling ill after drinking the brew Tuesday night in the village of Sangrampur, about 30 kilometers (20 miles) from Kolkata. The sick were rushed to hospitals Wednesday.
Cheap bootleg liquor, which is often sold to slum-dwellers, kills dozens of people every year in India. In 2009, at least 112 people died from a toxic brew in Western India
