DOCTOR FAINTS AFTER POLICE INTERVENTION TO BOARD FLIGHT
Kathmandu, 7 Dec.: Mugu District Hospital chief today [Tuesday] flew off the handle and fainted at Talcha airport after acting chief district officer sent cops to prevent him from boarding a flight to Surkhet. Dr Krishna Acharya was to attend a symposium in Nepalgunj, Jivan Sejuwal writes in The Himalayan Times from .Gamgadhi.
Though Acting CDO Karna Prasad Timalsina claimed that Dr Acharya was prevented from flying out of the district, as he had not sought permission for the same, district hospital sources say CDO was informed about the doctor’s programme through a letter.

“Of the two doctors in the hospital one is already on leave. If Dr Acharya had also left the district hospital would have been without a doctor,” reasoned Timalsina. “Due to repair work at the airport there will be no flights for at least a week and he would not have been able to return till then,” Timalsina added to defend his action.

Ironically, after Dr Acharya fainted he was airlifted to Surkhet at about 1 pm. Dr Acharya was on his way to attend a review symposium of integrated public health programme being organised by Regional Health Directorate, Nepalgunj.

Meanwhile, the health staff here are up in arms against the administration highhandedness and lamented that they are caught between the devil and the deep blue sea. “On the one hand we have to face action from the concerned ministry, department or regional office if we do not attend training programmes and symposiums, while on the other the administration treats us disgracefully,” said a staffer at the hospital.

Ghanashyam Pokharel, chief of the Mid-western Regional Health Directorate said, “Dr Acharya has recovered and will head to Nepalgunj on Wednesday.”
