VACATE CANTONMENTS DEBUA TELLS MAOISTS TO CONCLUDE PEACE

DEBUA DEMANDS VACATION OF CANTONMENTS BY FORMER MAOIST FIGHTERS TO CONCLUDE PEACE PROCESS
Kathmandu, 8 Dec.: Nepali Congress senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba said on Thursday that the cantonments of Maoists combatants should be evacuated as per the seven-point agreement signed among the major political parties earlier to take the peace process to its logical conclusion, RSS reports from Butwal.
Speaking at a press meet in Butwal organised by the Nepal Press Union, Rupandehi, he stressed on the need of returning the government and personal properties captured during the insurgency as per the past agreements.
The former Prime Minister also stated that the peace process should be concluded and constitution should be promulgated within the next six months to respect the Supreme Court directive.
Deuba also claimed that only he could be the Prime Minister of a national consensus government saying that none could reverse the decision of the party.
Responding to the queries of media persons about the internal conflict in his party, Deuba said, party organisation has been weakened due to NC President Shushil Koirala’s intention of moving forward unilaterally instead of taking all together.
“As a party leader, I am always trying to settle the minor contentious issues, however, party President is adding fuel in the fire,” said Deuba. “How can the problems be resolved when a faction always tries to sideline another in the party,”
